Spiritual Direction

SPIRITUAL DIRECTION

Spiritual Direction is the art of Christian conversation and listening carried out in the context of a trusting relationship. A Spiritual Director is trained to listen to your life stories with an ear for discerning the movement of the Holy Spirit in your life. God is the true guide and director, while the human spiritual director is like a coach or a midwife, assisting you in noticing and responding to the inner voice of God and movement in your life. The process is a spiritual journey into the truth about God, yourself, your relationships, your work, and the world.

SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR TRAINING, SUPERVISION AND FELLOWSHIP

Through Christian Formation and Direction Ministries (CFDM), a 2-year training and certificate program is hosted at Bel Air Church. In addition, supervision and fellowship opportunities for spiritual directors are offered throughout the year. Rev. Care Crawford, Pastor of Spiritual Direction & Soul Care at Bel Air Church, is the Regional Director for the Los Angeles network. In ongoing training and fellowship, those who offer the ministry of spiritual direction are invited to connect and support one another at Bel Air Church. Individual and group supervision opportunities are offered throughout the year for those who are actively involved in offering spiritual direction to others.

JOURNEYING

Journeying is a 6-8 month experience in “directed spiritual direction” offered to those who have joined a mission team. This program and relationship assists in the preparation of the inward journey as you go to serve with our partners. Journeying will deepen the experience of short term mission opportunities through Bel Air Church, equipping and preparing you spiritually before embarking on the journey, enabling you to pay attention to God’s work in you and through you. Upon return, given opportunities for reflection after the trip to allow for a deeper faith journey.

All journeys have secret destinations of which the traveler is unaware.” - Martin Luther
